So 505 cases outside of China. HOW HARD WOULD IT BE, to gather the data about how many of those were Asian, or mixed race... ????

It is a pertinent piece of data. I've read speculation that this virus targets Asians specifically - but without the data of race from confirmed cases - it remains speculation.

(You'd think the CDC would want to know this too; and they would have access to that information. Of course, perhaps they ALREADY know. Is someone hoping it will mutate to affect non-Asians too?)

This is where the PC arguement fails miserably. We're naming WARS something obscure and out of the norm because china says so, and we can't know races being infected separated by race because pussy assed race baiting white apologists will get their feelings hurt. And that's the nice version of how I feel about this. I'm seriously wishing my writing was better because I'd do a white house petition in a heartbeat to get this thing named what it should be- WARS. Wuhan Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

Ok...original or remake? Gonna fire it up here in 15min.
(Trick question! Of course, the original. Come on!(y) )
Yeah, but the end scene with Chris Hemsworth...I haven’t jumped that high in my seat in I don’t know how long. Even my cool as a cucumber nephew jumped and grabbed my arm, lol.

That scene is my biggest complaint with the movie.

Very different from the mysterious outcomes for the Eckert brothers we get in the original.

So the study someone posted a while back about evaluating countries for pandemic and the US was number one... that still scares me. I know what the average hospital, even the level ones have. I sure hope the CDC has one hell of a stockpile to distribute.
Not that it will be the least bit consoling... but the U.S. was number one and it only scored just under 84%. There were several categories they looked at for the study, our reporting system scored 98%, availability of healthcare services scored well - that was looking at number of hospitals and number of medical professionals per capita. Another area we scored well on was response - both time and recognizing we have a problem. We scored pretty good on communication with the people of this country and with the global medical community.

Our lowest score was on healthcare capability - which did include things like supplies, how many people could be treated before the system was overwhelmed, etc. We scored 59 on that. That's still higher than a lot of countries' overall scores, but that section addressed the issues like how many patients until we're overwhelmed, supplies... and the availability of free healthcare to all. The WHO medical model likes socialized medicine so we got gigged for that.

I know CDC has a "strategic supply" of medical supplies for emergencies, but I'm not sure we have enough intelligent people doing the day to day running of that section that we would still have them in an emergency. We just sent 100 million dollars worth of medical supplies and equipment to China. That was our response to WHO's call out for $675 million, we sent medical things instead of cash they can divert to something else. But those supplies had to come from somewhere and I thought at the time, it was lessening our own stockpile of supplies.
