What's for Dinner?

I had a chicken breast and a small pan of garden trash.

In the wind we had in the last couple of days, I had two hard green tomatoes get knocked off a vine. I picked a couple of yellow squash, some baby blackeyed pea pods, and some fresh green onions, basil, lemon thyme, and parsley. Chopped it all up and tossed it in a skillet with a little salt and a little butter. Delicious.

Today has been one of those weird eating days... a balanced meal over the course of the day, but it has taken long enough to get it balanced.

Sauteed squash for breakfast.
Squash casserole, squash salad and fresh baby blackeyed peapods for lunch. (Never guess what's getting ready in the garden, would you?)
Tuna salad on sliced tomatoes for dinner.

But the highlight of the day was peaches and cream. I love fresh peaches (not from my garden...) with a little bit of heavy cream poured over them.

You have to be paying attention and not talking on the phone while you are fixing this complicated dish or you'll pour buttermilk over your peaches and spit them everywhere when you take the first bite... or so I've heard... and cleaned up.

A friend stopped by briefly on his way home from work and brought me some fresh caught shrimp and some sea scallops (scallop season doesn't open here until next week.) Said he figured I was about tired of land meat... he and his wife know my seafood obsession...

I sent him home with a pan of brownies and a bag of tomatoes from the garden. Kids down the street were going to get brownies, but they didn't know it yet so they won't miss them.

Big, fat shrimp and big, fat scallops, sauteed in butter and avocado oil, with very thin lemon slices, a tiny amount of salt and black pepper on them... If I hadn't want to eat the last one so badly, I think I would have married it. Squash salad and fresh peaches with it.

Put a fork in me, I'm done.

I used to have one of those Masterbuilt electric smokers. A couple of things I liked about it was that it was really easy to cook. You set the temperature, put some wood chips in and the temperature would stay consistant. Another good thing was the built in thermometer. A couple of drawbacks were that there were alot of parts to clean and the small compartment where the woodchips would go in, would sometimes get jammed and it was also really small. Also, I thought it wasn't wide enough. Overall I think it's a good smoker but since I've gone charcoal, I'll never go back.

Thanks!

Today, it will be the Second Half of the 5-Ounce can of Tuna, on a bed of Homegrown Lettuces (probably all of Three Leaves), with Home-Grown Meter Lemon and Maybe some Capers, Onions, and a Home-Grown Sweet 100 Cherry Tomato or Three (IF SWMBO and She Who Chooses aren't looking, as The Tomatoes and Capers are NOT on the "Approved List of Comestibles for Week 5 Post-Op).
