My work does missions trips all over the world and they were cleaning out their stock of first aid stuff. They mostly had OTC meds but I was able to pull some good stuff.... lots of saline’s anti bacterial wipes, bandages, providone iodine wipes, wounds dressing changing kits and a really compact pocket sized first aid kit.
It’s all past expiration date, that’s why they were getting rid of it. but it’s all late 2018 and early 2019 stuff. Most it is just boosting my existing stash but I didn’t have any saline previously so that’s a plus
Nice find... Do you know what the FDA and WHO does when meds expire and are in short supply?
Extend the expiration date for another year or 2. I think it was 7 or 8 years ago the DHS released a report working with the FDA that showed most medication in pill form had an efficacy of about 90% after 10 years from Exp. Date.
IIRC the only things that should be avoided and had a much shorter shelf life are liquid medicine/injectable meds/life saving medication and tetricycline antibiotics that had a possible life threatening effect after expiration. This was only one person I believe but not worth the risk according to the study.
This study was published in public forum on DHS sites but was quickly taken down after people starting realizing the meds they're prescribed (if stored correctly in a cool dry place) were still effective in treating a potential outbreak or mass Cas. Incident that would need the kind of medication reserves the study covered.
I had this saved in cloud/drive form and other places like email and it is no longer available.
I've tried to search out this study a few times a year to see if its available and I can't find it. It was a great resource on shelf life and studies of medicines viability in a mass casualty or transportation halted scenario. #notadoctor
Great finds. I've been picking up some knowledge about knowing when certain meds are bad, based on color, look or even smell. But things like IV catheters or drip valves I've overheard are good as long as the package isn't damaged is sterile.
