Water pump system

Done a little digging but no sense reinventing the wheel.

I live on a lake, was wondering about suggestions for a simple water pump to pump water 50-60 ft up to the house. It'd be nice to have a filtration system in it also.

I am also planning on doing a water tank system eventually also when we put a master suite addition on.

Hey Doc:

What are you thinking for power? 120VAC, 12V or like HandLoad's suggestion, gasoline?

Any preference for gallons per hour? What's the height difference between the lake level and where you want the water?

Are you thinking of a system that is hooked into your house plumbing with the filters (and maybe UV sterilization light?) in line with a pressure switch?

I think @Sentinel one has an awesome system and may have a lot of insight.

Fifty years ago, a strainer, hard line, pump, tank, and a pressure switch. Worked great for a 4 bedroom 2 bath lake house.
Untreated lake water for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
No one got sick, it tasted great, didn’t stain the clothes.
Times change.
I’ll bet it would be illegal to run that system now or actually harmful due to septic systems, pesticides, etc.

240 some areas can still do it. the family has a camp in the Adirondacks, on a small lake. Pump all the water right out of the lake. Tested every year and still good for drinking.

The area is very rocky. Not very many septic systems. Mostly holding tanks.

I think gas so could use regardless of the grid. Solar was a thought also if I put in a collection tank and dont care about pressure as much.

Maybe 3 ft height difference, to the walkout basement, 10 to the main floor.

Ideally yes, but at minimum something I could just use to get water to the house not by bucket :)

I certainly wouldn't drink ours without purification or boiling. I also wouldn't run it unless we lost water.

Yup. That was 50 years ago. But as recently as 20 years ago that system was still in operation. It obviously would depend on the body of water. But think of it this way.
How’s the public water in Flint , or other metropolitan city water areas? Those systems are supposedly “safe”. Hell, the well water at my work site is horrible.
I only drink what goes through the Reverse Osmosis filter.
Others prefer what comes out of the tap which typically has dissolved solids levels 10X higher. Yuck!

Keep it simple.. 1 1/4 black poly pipe for your suction line, a foot valve on the end...
tie the foot valve to a cinder block. Use a piece of chain through the block with a
quick link so the rope doesn't rub... use bleach jugs as floats and leave some rope loose
so you can pull it up for checks and repairs. A jet pump will do just fine.. 115V 3/4 hp
or 1 hp is more than enough. A plain pressure tank is fine.. the pre pressurized tanks
with rubber bladders will crack and give you grief. This depends on how hard the lake water is.
I have a UV system and a .5 micron filter as well as a bleach injection pump to bring
everything up to health code if we opened to the public again. I just use the .5 micron
filter, and it lasts about 5 months.
Now if you just want an emergency pump, a 12V DC fuel transfer pump will do the trick..
3/4" input and output, so you can Macguyver it into your house system easily.
3/4" black poly to the lake, foot valve etc. These are great little pumps.. self priming
gear style. I made a system for a buddy of mine for his fish camp that is set up for
solar.. he only uses it a few times a year.
