Realistic Expectations for When SHTF

I have to point out one thing - a reminder, really.

We're no longer waiting for "when" it hits the fan. It IS hitting the fan, right NOW, in my opinion. But it's easy to be lulled by many things not changing yet. Still go to work, Walmart people still being Walmart people, stores have most of what you want/need (despite the apocalyptic "news" about so many layoffs and closings). You can still mostly travel without having to show papers at checkpoints.

The gov't is essentially non-functional. They are working overtime to make sure insurance and banking join the major cluster. And while the headlines are going toward gun control and online censorship - realize just what happens to a white, traditional, Christian male trying to make a living in the PC-ruled, oppressed vs bigot/mysoginist world. I'm not as much of a target (or threat) to those proggie-marxist loonies being a female and old enough to not have to have an opinion on birth control, etc.

I give it till about June, before people start to realize how much imported fresh produce and beef/pork prices have gone up. I think my hedge against that is gonna be homegrown and local sources. Get that well-established now... and restock the freezer. We basically cleaned a lot of stuff out of it last winter.

Agree, @Sacajawea - it is like many Shipwrecks where a Ship approaches another ship, a bridge, a dock, or a Shoal. It happens so slowly, many who are farther away, can't see it happening.

Our Political-Social system is possessed of such inertia, that the bricks falling out of our "Foundation" (the Constitution) and our "structure" -societal mores are easy to miss, unless You are paying close attention.

The Arrow of Change is clearly pointing in a De-evolutionary direction. Strongly. Inexorably. Irreversably.

Sacajawea states very clearly and (imho) very accurately:

“We're no longer waiting for "when" it hits the fan. It IS hitting the fan, right NOW, in my opinion.

She’s what they say “Dead on!”

I’m thinking it actually started about a year ago or so.
And as others just pointed out, it takes a lot to stop a moving train.
If you don’t have a garden, start one this season. Start storing dry goods now. Don’t spend any money on discretionary things. Get your “necessities” in order right away.

Q: Remember, how are a .22 cal bullet, a 500 lb. bomb and starvation alike?
A: Either way you’re just as dead before you are supposed to be.

A Soup was part of my plan too. I dont know if you guys have any Aldis near you but if not its a very affordable store with pretty decent food. Anyway i challenged myself to go there and stock up a few days worth of food with only 20 bucks. I got a couple bags of rice, some canned veggies (green beans corn and carrots) canned potatoes, canned chicken, and then some some condensed cheddar soup and chicken soup.

had plenty of protein and vitamins, and can be cooked quickly in one pot. I think it all came to under $15

Sometimes I would make adjustments to the controls of my train that wouldn’t make sense till a few miles down the track. Momentum and physics had to work themselves out. Same here. 320 million people are gonna react slowly as a whole.
For a while until the train reaches the edge of the cliff, then things get kinda interesting once the “rate limiting step” is passed. Kinetics always makes things more fun once the majority of the mass reaches just over the line even if the reaction starts out really slow.
Did ya ever develop a black and white photo? Same thing.

I wanna know where you live, my friend!!!

Seriously though, I really like my booze in the evenings....I will miss it if the SHTF. Although I do have a good bit put away......
You and me both, but there are plenty of reasons to set it aside, even beyond drinking. That's one of our bigger preps, cheap liquor for trade and other use!

The good stuff, of course, is for drinking. (y)

After divorce and a few other of life’s little surprises I fell into a bottle of southern comfort. All the way down. I got to where I would take a few shots in the morning to get my legs. Driving to work one morning I forgot where I worked and what I did. I was a locomotive engineer at this point mind you. I pulled over to the side of the road till my head cleared. That was November of 2004. I have a drink every now and then but I’ve now gotten to the point that I don’t like even feeling buzzed.
If we were hanging out together there’s no doubt I would have a glass with all of you but I don’t drink much anymore. I would say the smell of southern comfort brings back memories but it just brings back haze 🤣
