The inner cheap skate in me thinks that burning food grade products is wasteful and could get kinda spendy.
I like to hit yard sales and flea markets for those giant pillar candles.
You can get them for a buck or two and make a dozen or so 2" x3 1/2" emergency candles from them.

The color of the finish product doesn't matter to me and I mix colors as I melt them down.
Aluminum molds are available at Hobby Lobby and last forever.
What's the point of remolding them? To fit in a particular candle lantern?

Bring up an old thread to add something. Recently had to treat one of the kids for ring worm. Reminded along with the antibiotics and that, its good to stock up on OTC antifungal ointments. Terbinifine is the best in my opinion, but clotrimazole is ok also. I think there would be a lot of ringworm, jock itch, and other tinea infections in a rougher world.

OTC steroids like hydrocortisone are also really helpful for rashes and eczema.

Pretty cool. A long time ago, in a place 12,000 miles away, I lived in a squad tent with a wood floor for 18 months and then a "SE Asia" for another 14 months. Very poor supply, often wearing patched up jungle fatigues, taped up equipment, hand sewn mosquito net repairs. I needed something really nifty like this for every thing we did. A great tool when there is no traditional alternative or ready replacement

Bud,

I have two of them and a bunch of extra thread,
but in a pinch, one can use dental floss.
I prefer the waxed kind.
very handy to for making do.

Everybody like a Zippo lighter, well maybe I like a zippo lighter.

But their weakness is the fuel evaporates. So add one or three of these to the mix.

They take up little space and have storage for extra flints, they seal up well and are pretty sturdy
Plus in a pinch, you can just dump some fluid on top of your tinder and use a ferro rod.
