If it's all free wood and materials give it a try. I would just to help build up my skill base. A carpenter I am not, never given/taken the opportunity.

You all remember that guy at the other place that built those earth bag shelters and sprayed concrete over them? Former Marine, I can't remember his name. That guy had some skills.

I really don't like the idea of those tires decaying so close to my food and water sources.
Tire full of dirt is bulletproof. If you use dirt and gravel in a slurry mix, you'll get good fill, and the truck tire sizes will stop .50 BMG. As to tire decay, it's not any worse than wood decay. Myself, I'd be tempted to use pallets inside to hold the sheetrock....
