I confess to only carrying the minimum for the task at hand today.
Folding pocket knife
Fixed blade on belt
Water
Paracord
Camo burlap
Hang on hunting chair
Deer mineral/salt (spot I keep up year round now)
Plastic bag for garbage. Empty going in and sadly full coming out every time.

In my defense, I could hear my rooster and the squawking hens that were laying!
Just over two peaks and on the nw side of a saddle

*forgot S&W 40 cal full mag no extras.

Jay,

Awesome bit of kit there Jay!
What's the total weight there? Any idea?

I admit, I'm all over the board on my outings. Lately I have been heading back in the Tarzan direction
I banged out a 4 mile trail hike early this morning with just a Carother's EDC II, a ferro rod, and my walking stick.

I'll go from being heavily laiden for all serious scenarios to just a knife.
I do the same thing with knives. I'll go from a big chopper to just a Puukko.

Some times I just need to escape the trappings of modern society. If I screw up at least the coyotes and crows will eat well.

I was trying to figure out what Cockpit was. I think is spell checked Cookpot.

Couple things I would add to your kit. If it were me of course.
Jute Twine. I use twine for everything. Fire starter, lashing, frog jigs, shoelaces in a pinch, and much more.

Also, I might jetison 50' of Para and toss in a roll of Tarred Bank Line.
TBL crosses the bridge between Twine and Para very nicely.

Your kit is both impressive and solid. Not trying to step on your toes at all.

I have just come to rely on Twine and TBL more over para. Both are cheaper, lighter and take up less space.

You know, I've never weighed it but I'd bet to say the pack loaded is approx 15-18 lbs with water and the chest rig is approx 5-7 lbs with sidearm and ammo. As we get closer to colder weather I'll start to swap a few things out for more weather appropriate choices.

I need to do more of that! Maybe just venturing out with the chest rig with the bare essentials for a day or night! We recently made hiking sticks and I'm trying to get use to using one again!

I agree with you... I should ditch one of the paracord hunks and replace it with some bank line. I do keep meaning to throw a good hank of jute twine in my pack but I just never do it. I should fix that!

Thanks LV! Your not stepping on my toes at all! I love sorting out gear and finding out what works and what doesn't in the field AND I love hearing from others as to what works for them in similar circumstances and why.

How do like the Swedish Mess Kit?
Love it! You know I've had it forever (really, my dad had given them to us as teenagers in boyscouts) but I've never really used it until lately. I've been a Jetboil fan for many years and before that was a die-hard MSR stove and cook kit guy, but after Harbinger donated a bunch of surplus mess kits to my scouts I decided to pull mine out and start using it again. So I have a new found love for the versatility of it. I haven't used it on a fire yet but have done tea and coffee in it on a small Primus canister fuel stove (which the stove and fuel canister fit inside of the kit)! I'm excited to use it more and more!
