Why not a windmill pump? Old school, no electricity... made in Texas, too.. start
at about $3000..

Where I grew up ( South Western Ontario) the farms I worked on had to go
400 to 700 feet to get water, so it was windmill or a Duro double piston pump.
Piston pumps are bullet proof and can be run off any motor via pulley and belt.
I have a single and a double piston Duro for backup out here.. they were about $50 used, and
just needed new leather seats and seals.
Putting a pump down a well is just retarded for maintenance. Run poly pipe with check valves
every 50 feet down to a sand point or a foot valve.. I have had to fix too many
badly designed pump systems. I will post photos of the system I designed
for here in a few weeks when i get It up and running.

Can that style pump be plumbed in with some sort of a manifold to switch to a backup system?

Yep.. I would parallel it with a set of ball valves along side the main system. I have run
mine off of a 10hp 4 stroke gas engine, as well as a 1 1/2 hp electric motor at 120V/20A.
I don't have to lift as high as you guys. I draw straight out of the bay, so I need about 8
feet of head over 300 feet, so I have a 1 1/2 jet pump to run everything. My cabin has
a 3/4 hp jet pump

Any luck posting pics on your system? It sounds simple and interesting.

I have a simple pump still in the box in my barn. I have debated as to whether I should set it up (and begin to degrade) or leave it in the box until I need it. I should be able to set it up in less than a day and I have other water sources.

on the North Channel, not a well, so I only have to deal with 6 to 8 feet of head.

For a well 30 ish feet is max lift for suction.
After that depth you need to push the water up somehow. That’s why deeper wells have the pump at the bottom.

Reducing the diameter of the suction line and installing check valves helps to a point...
dropping to a 1 inch line and check valves every 50 feet, a single piston Duro will easily
go 500 feet without issue.

OIC I was hoping to get more info on the Duro double piston pump with check valve setup. That sounds simple. I like the idea of leather seats and seals for sustainability.

I have to get on the ball: I have several ways to power my well pump, but if the pump or associated pipe goes bad, I am up Crap Creek. That Simple Pump looks fantastic, but I think they must use stainless steel-plated gold as the material!

The good news is that my water level is only 125' down. I have been thinking about going with a Flojack pump or making my own like shown in that EMAS video I posted in the PVC thread.
