The ability to get out and enjoy earth. Damn it sucks to realize how much time is spent just making a living and trying to take care of what you have. Hard to switch gears at 47.
I understand EXACTLY what you mean.

But lets try and look at it the other way...what if we never discovered what we actually want to do. And we just kept on the hamster wheel for our entire lives.

I'm 40...and I firmly believe that my 2nd 40 will be the best half. :coffee:  (y)

Yep, learned that one long ago. You don't own stuff, stuff owns you. The more stuff you have the more space and other stuff you need to store that stuff and to make the other stuff useful. Got a TV? Where do you put it? What do you watch on it? Now you need to pay rent and electricity and probably cable.

I can't even imagine having spent the last 20 years on the wheel. There is too much out there to do and see. Too many awesome people to meet. So many rivers I still haven't fished yet.

I've never been quite so busy, nor had much of a social life - UNTIL I retired. Spent oodles of time reading, researching, thinking, writing (in my journal). Spent more time learning about the different ways to be a beach bum. Got "serious" about prepping... and watched hubs succumb to gadget-mania and gun collectoritis. Learned to shoot a pistol (I learned rifles as a kid). Indulged in the quixotic hope that I could grow fresh veggies at the beach (worse results I've seen anywhere). Started looking at a lot of tactical stuff - still not out of that rabbit hole yet.

Fortunately I'm one of those "maker" people... and already have the tools/supplies to create an income stream on the farm -- if I ever find the time, LOL.
