But, Ya #1 gotta have enough Water Pressure to Push the Nasty Water Through the FIlters. #2, Ya Gotta Stock Lotsa Spendy FIlters, from Suppliers. #3 - Lotsa Joints and Connections to Run/Maintain. #4 (Most Often a FAIL Point) - Ya Gotta get the Filters Out in Time, Clean the Housing and Mating Surfaces, and O-rings, etc, and Then Successfully get 'em back together.

$400.00 Got Us an All Stainless Steel, Glass and One short piece of Surgical Tubing, Distiller. Yep, electricity, but Solar Powerbank is enough, if it can output 750 Watts for Three Hours a Day, per 1 Gallon. Mine has been running for more than Ten Years now, running a bit more than Two Loads per Day for Us Three Adults. Not "Filtered", but 100% Pure H2O. Yeah, Might be more than $1000 now...

"Pure and Secure" Mini Classic II model.

I'll have to do some research to see if that would work in my theoretical RV setup. (y)

I dunno...Seems like $1000 would buy another complete setup, spares, as well as a pile of “spendy filters,” good for a few hundred gallons depending on initial water quality. Power requirements would be less for a 12vdc pump for the same volume of water as well, I bet. Plus, I don’t need the purity to make IV fluids, I just need it clean enough to drink.

Distillation units have their place (actually, I HAVE been playing around with grid down/remote/austere production of IV fluids), but I like the setup Grev posted...as I have already built one for my travel trailer, prefilter and pump included, mimicking the Clearsource Nomad unit, but better. I’ll see if I can drag it out and get some photos. It isn’t pretty, but it’s functional. All the potable water we could want from a lake, pond, ditch or puddle.

Yep - Filtration is Faster, and If Ya Don't need Pure...

The Distiller takes just over Three Hours to make Circa One Gallon.

But the filtration requires Repeated unending Filter carts...

I have had/run Filtration rigs - For Me, the Monitoring/Cleaning routine of the Filter Housings, and getting the Final Filter back together without "Seeding " more Algae/etcetera Growth made Me Feel like it was Never Clean after First Run. Stuff always grew in the Filter Housings, light or No Light. Location (Under the Kitchen Sink) was an issue as well - The Distiller sitting on the Countertop, was Infinitely easier to Clean/Maintain, than Me, on the Floor, Looking up at the filter rack/fittings and trying to get them really clean whilst trying to hold My Head up inside the cabinet, etc...
