careful Harbinger. usually in the mornin, I see 6/7 people out for a stroll up old orangeburg road, heading out to the weeds, with their rucks on, I was stopped getting gas, and 2 state troopers were actually stopping them, checking ID and fieldstripping their rucks, leaving them to repack while they bounced to the next one..... it was in a word odd.

Going with the old Kelty D3 external frame pack I see! I cut my teeth on one of those! No Alice pack this trip?

Any goals or skills you are working on for your weekend or just going to breathe and see what happens? What kind of tent are you using? Wheres your IFAK and cordage? Rain gear?

I'm excited for ya harbinger! Well deserved time in the woods!

Trying to lighten the load the kelty saves me 6lbs.
IFAK is on the belt.
Paracord is laced into the frame and I didn't even think about mentioning it. About 25ft.
Forgot the poncho! That's why I posted. I knew someone would catch something.
Just going to get some time to myself don't plan to even build a fire, might but I have the stove to boil water and a Sawyer mini.
Tent is just a little one person deal from Walmart.

Had 10 people for the weekend. So much for the me time but I did have time to decompress and we had some good training (long as we're all there.)
I added the camp tarp to my pack.
Filtered rain water, everyone collected enough for a week in about 2 hours. I wasn't setup as well as a couple guys but once it started to pour that cup I have pictured below filled in about a minute.

Home for the weekend

Raining

Little extra water

I like the pack. Its light and large enough to hold everything I need. I would like to have more dividers or pockets to organize better. Will get a few more of the dry bags for organization.

Tent was great.
No problem with water coming in the floor I do plan on getting a better pad though, Looking at a inflatable.
Venting was good. Not overly hot. Used sleeping bag for my pillow.

I'm going to have to rethink my battle belt. The one I have is going to the storage tote. I'm going to pull out the vest again until I figure out what I want. Don't really want to add suspenders, I could just go back to the ALICE if I do.

I need to add a collapsible container for water storage.

The MSR dromedary bags are great for collapsable water storage. They make them from 2 liters up to 10 liters.

Were you trying to wear your battle belt with tue external frame kelty pack? If so I can see where that wouldnt work very well. Vest or chest rig would definitely be the way to go.

Looks like you had a good setup for camp and everyone had fun! Great idea setting up the tarp over your tent for increasing the square footage of coverage. Especially nice for long term rain.

Did you guys have a group tarp or canopy to hang out under? Any specific challenges you encountered to make you rethink anything?

Thanks for sharing your outing!

Looking at a gallon size container I think.

I had the belt on. I have about 4 inches between the belt and the pack. I'll get a picture.

We had a 12x12 tarp over the fire.

No real challenges, someone had about everything we needed between us.

Some how the fire area was at my front door. Lot of traffic. Next trip I'll have to be more careful about it.

I'm not the greatest at remembering to take pictures.
