Couple years ago a tornado passed through here just a mile away from me in the middle of the night. We woke up to our phones going nuts due to a weather alert. It was a small f1 and it screwed up alot of stuff. I can't even imagine what an f3 or bigger would do

Might be finally starting to weaken after over 70 miles down.

When I was a teenager, a f3 passed about two miles from our house. We could see it from the upstairs windows. Afterwards, we went to see the path of it.

It tore grass from the ground, and even lifted the topsoil. There was literally a wide and shallow trench dug. Whole trees were thrown 500 yards. Crazy stuff.

@Mattsn

There's some weak rotation in the area that I assume you're referring to but it is not strong at the moment. Hope your kids are safe and I'm glad they're sheltering. Keep us informed!

Thanks for the info 40. That area you circled is a good ways north of Kent Island though. Teachers may be over reacting. However in the case of safety I'd probably rather that, than under reacting. One thing I don't like about working in Annapolis is that I'm not 1/4 mile from my kid anymore

Depends on where you are... In areas with a lot of tornados it's a smaller radius. Areas that don't get many tend to call it in and shelter in place if there's anything even remotely nearby... Like 30 miles.
That makes sense then why they sent that alert even though that rotation wasnt very close
