Nice short and simple video. Neat trick with the axe, I wouldn’t have ever figured to use it like that.

How sharp do you generally keep your axe? I generally like to keep things with a blade hair popping sharp but there doesn’t really seem to be one set way with camp axes, some dudes say a file and decent sharpness it ok because to sharp will blunt quickly and then others say so long as the steel is good super sharp is the best way to go. I know the Chogan isn’t top of the line steel so I’m torn on how sharp to keep it.

Thanks!

I sharpen it with a hand file and finish ot with a hand stone. Its definitely not hair popping sharp but sharp enough to make shavings. On a scale of 1-10 for sharpness its probably at a 6 or 7. I just sharpened it so probably a 7 then...

I think as long as you have a decent edge on an axe then you are ok. Keep a small file to keep burs of the edges and a small hand stone to touch up the sharpness for finer work.
