I have always wanted to plumb in a homemade refrigerator into my incoming water line. Every time you run water in the house, it cycles through the line keeping things cold. The ideas I read years ago incorporated a small steel drum inside a large steel drum with sawdust or sand as an insulation layer between. This idea is simpler with minimal expense.

I'm thinking about trying to plumb this ^^^ into a small spring in my woods, just for fun.

Good idea for a refridgerator for your backwoods yurt! No need to go to the house for another cold beer!

That's similar in design to the cold cellar spring house that raised several generations of us. They built it close to a spring, piped it in to a trough that encircles the cellar interior. In WV, I'm told it would hold 50* all summer long. Milk jugs and other crocks were set directly in the water trough. I think my dad has pics, I'll check. Thr old family home burned about 5 years back.

I'm gonna build a small frig of the same concept this summer. There is a small run off spring that runs along the ditch and crosses my driveway. The driveway has a smooth 16" metal culvert pipe under it. About 6ft of soil covering it. My plan is build a track and drawer assembly that will fit into the pipe above the normal water level. Thought being that I could take items and set them on the drawer and push them deep into the pipe under the driveway. Should be pretty cold in there. I plan on doing a OTGF review of the idea this summer when its hot outside.

I'll just have to remember to pull everything out prior to any big rain storms or my neighbor will have free food. lol
